LORI and the Rijeka subsidarie of the medical students' organisation CroMSIC organise IDAHOBIT week from May 17th until 21st 2021! With multiple events live and online, the 9th year in the row in Rijeka we mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) which is commemorated on the 17 of May in more than 130 countries worldwide.
In Croatia, IDAHOBIT is being commemorated since 2011 by the decision of the Croatian Parliament as part of the National Policy for Gender Equality and Rijeka is the only city that officially participates by hanging a rainbow flag on Rijeka City hall on that day since 2013.
This year global theme of IDAHOBIT is „Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!“ points out the severe consequences of the pandemic but also the importance of providing mutual support.LGBTIQ+ persons in times of the pandemic are more exposed to violence from unaccepting environment and family, among other difficulties they come accross: access to medical care, exposure to hate speech, access to public services (housing etc.), access to justice.
LORI and CroMSIC wish to emphasize the additional vulnerability of LGBTIQ+ persons in society and exposure to violence as well as the importance of achieving basic human rights for every person.
Monday, May 17th 2021

16:00 – 18:30 Human library with LGBT persons (Zoom platform)
Human library is an interesting and interactive way of sensitising on social issues: „books“ are people and through dialog they acquaint the „readers“ with their personal experiences, everything they face as LGBT persons in our society. Due to a limited number of readers, reservations are mandatory via CroMSIC app - (CroMSIC).
Friday, May 21st 2021
16:30 – 18:00 Queer walk around Trsat
Since the amount of content for the LGBTIQ+ community has been greatly reduced (or so to speak non-existent) since the start of the pandemic, and being outside is recommended, we invite everyone for a queer walk on Trsat roads and paths. E-mail reservations: firstname.lastname@example.org. The meeting location will be sent after the confirmation.
*Event organisers will of course respect all prevention measureas and recommendations for the COVID-19 disease so the IDAHOBIT week can go by in a safe and cheerful environment.
